Patna: Bihar women team defeated Jharkhand by 57-31 in the 72nd Senor National East Zone Basketball Championships at Patliputra Sports Complex here on Friday.
For Bihar, Ritu scored 12 points and Garima scored 11 points and they played an important role in the victory. Jharkhand’s Anu scored 12 and Jaya scored 10 points. Earlier, in another women’s match, Odisha beat Uttarakhand 65-16. In men’s section, Jharkhand started with a win by defeating Andaman and Nicobar 64-16.
Earlier, Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav inaugurated the championships by releasing balloons in the air. The tournament is being organised by Basketball Association of Bihar under the aegis of Basketball Federation of India. Bihar art, culture and youth department minister Jitendra Kumar Rai was present on the occasion.
Director of panchayati raj department cum president of Basketball Association of Bihar, Ranjit Kumar Singh welcomed the guests by presenting mementos and shawls. On this occasion, MLC Sunil Singh, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari and Vinod Gunjiyal, director, art, culture and youth department were honoured by Basketball Association of Bihar secretary Sushil Kumar and organizing secretary Vinay Kumar.
