Patna: Bihar defeated Assam by 43 runs on the third day of their Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Tournament match at Barpeta, Assam, on Friday.
After winning the toss, Bihar chose to bat in the first innings but struggled, managing only 70 runs before being bowled out. Assam responded with a total of 128 runs, gaining a 58-run lead over Bihar. In Bihar’s second innings, Prithvi Raj’s outstanding unbeaten 156 runs helped Bihar reach 265, setting Assam a target of 208 runs to win. Assam, however, fell short, getting bowled out for 164 in their second innings, allowing Bihar to claim victory by 43 runs.
Bihar resumed their second innings on the third day with a score of 235 for eight wickets and were eventually all out for 265. Prithvi’s undefeated 156 and his crucial 61-run partnership with Suman Kumar for the ninth wicket were vital for Bihar’s score. In the second innings, Bihar’s other contributions came from Aditya Sinha (29), Agastya (13), Satyam Kumar (12), and Suman Kumar (9), among others, while Prithvi remained unbeaten with 156.
Assam’s bowlers were led by Harsh Kumar, who took four wickets, while Mohit Thakur claimed three, Ayushman Malakar two, and P. Kashyap one.
Chasing a target of 208, Assam struggled early on, losing five wickets with just 70 runs on the board. The team was eventually all out for 164. For Assam, Dyutimoy Nath scored 49, Prabal Kalita 44, and Harsh Kumar 25, but their efforts weren’t enough to secure the win. Bihar’s Satyam Kumar claimed five wickets, Aditya Raj three, and Suman Kumar two, sealing Bihar’s victory.
Bihar’s next match is scheduled against Kerala in Trivandrum on November 13.
