Bihar to Get New Four-Lane Road: Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama Stretch to Be Operational by March

By Vishwapati

Patna: Bihar is set to receive the gift of another four-lane road, significantly reducing travel time between Bakhtiyarpur and Mokama. The 44-km stretch, expected to be operational by March, will cut the current one-and-a-half-hour journey to just 30 minutes. According to reports, 95% of the construction work has been completed, and vehicles are expected to start running on the new road within two months.

The existing four-lane road from Patna to Bakhtiyarpur, spanning 50 km, has been in use for years. Now, with the new extension, the road will be directly connected to Rajendra Bridge and the under-construction Simaria Bridge over the Ganges, easing travel to North Bihar. Currently, commuters use an older, time-consuming road between Bakhtiyarpur and Mokama, but the new highway will offer a faster alternative, saving passengers at least an hour.

Construction of this road began in February 2016, and its completion will provide relief to thousands of commuters travelling to Mokama, Begusarai, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, and other parts of eastern and northeastern Bihar. At present, the officially operational four-lane route extends only between Patna and Bakhtiyarpur.

In March 2025, once construction on the Bakhtiyarpur-Barh section is completed, a toll booth will become operational in Pandarak. Additionally, a bridge over the railway line near Karanauti village is under construction to facilitate travel between Bakhtiyarpur and Mokama, with one lane expected to be completed by next month.
