Bihar State Ranking Badminton: Tabrez stamps his authority on men’s section; women’s crown for Saloni

Madhubani: Tabrez of Patna defeated Sameer Raj of Purnia 21-15, 21-16 to win the men’s singles title of Bihar State Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament here on Saturday while Saloni Kumari of Purina beat Akanksha Panndey of Buxar 23-25-21 to bag the women’s crown.

The men’s singles final lasted for 34 minutes as Tabrez gave very little scope to Sameer to come back in the match. On the other hand, the women’s singles final saw keen tussle between Saloni and Akanksha as both fought very hard for every single point. The match lasted for 45 minutes.

In the men’s doubles final, the pair of Ambuj Prakash and Siddharth Bhushan defeated the Buxar pair of Ankit Kumar and Rohit Kumar 21-15, 14-21, 21-19. The men’s doubles final also saw and an exciting finish and the match lasted for 50 minutes.

Men winners and runners up

In women’s doubles final, Saloni Kumari of Purnia and Simran Singh of Patna were up against Annu Prakash of Nalanda and Zainab Nazir of Patna. Saloni Kumari and Simran Singh beat Annu and Zainab 21-11, 21-09 in 25 minutes.

In mixed doubles final, Jehanabad’s Ambuj Prakash and Patna’s Vibha won the title by defeating Siddharth Bhushan of Baishali and Akanksha Pandey of Buxar 21-16, 19-21, 24-22 in a tough 66-minute match.

At the closing function, Pankaj Raj, director cum secretary, Bihar State Sports Authority said that a high performance center for badminton would be established in Bihar soon. One foreign and one Indian coach will be appointed at the centre to improve the level of badminton in the state. “Today there is no loser in the final, just kept winning and winning,” he said.

Madhubai district magistrate Arvind Kumar Verma said: “I will make every effort to promote badminton and other sports”.  On the occasion, general secretary of Bihar Badminton Association KN Jaiswal said that this hall of Madhubani District Badminton Association in United Bihar was the only hall of North Bihar where 32 times state-level and 6 times national level badminton tournaments were orgainsed in  the last 35 years of its establishment.

Proposing a vote of thanks at the conclusion of the tournament, Suresh Kumar Bairoliya, secretary, Madhubani District Badminton Association said that I thanked all the players who came here, their parents, district administration, main sponsor State Bank of India , all my co-sponsors and all the people of my team for the success of the tournament.
