Patna: Manipur faced an uphill task to avoid defeat against Bihar in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group final, as at the end of the fourth day’s play at the Moinul Haq Stadium on Saturday, Manipur were 107/4, still needing 438 runs to win the match on the fifth and final day on Sunday with six wickets in hand in their second innings.
Earlier, resuming the day at 156 for six, Bihar were all out for 335 runs in their second innings. The highlight of the day’s play was a magnificent century by Sachin Kumar Singh. Sachin scored 132 runs with 18 boundaries off 152 balls. The Bihar tailenders collected 179 runs today. Bihar captain Ashutosh Aman’s well-made half century (51) was the other notable action of the day.
Kishan Singha took seven wickets for Manipur, conceding 94 runs in 43 overs.
Chasing a mammoth score to win the match, Manipur lost their first wicket with 15 runs on the board. However, a defiant 78-run partnership between Langlonyamba M and Priyojit K for the second wicket, added some respectability to Manipur’s total. But after the fall of Priyojit K, who made 39 runs, Manipur lost two wickets quickly, as at the end of the fourth day’s play, Manipur were struggling at 107/4. For Bihar, Ashutosh Aman took two wickets while Nawaz and Sachin each bagged one wicket.
