Patna: The budget session of the Bihar Legislature began today with Governor Arif Mohammad Khan addressing both houses jointly. In his 35-minute speech, the Governor highlighted the achievements of the Nitish Kumar-led government and outlined the ongoing schemes in the state. He placed particular emphasis on the government’s efforts to generate jobs and employment opportunities.
Government’s Focus on Employment and Jobs
The Governor stated that the government’s target is to provide jobs to 10 lakh individuals and self-employment opportunities to another 10 lakh. So far, 9.35 lakh people have been employed, while the recruitment process for the remaining positions is underway. He also announced that 12 lakh government jobs will be filled before the elections this year. Additionally, 24 lakh people have already been provided employment, and it is expected that 34 lakh more will secure jobs before the election announcements.
Opposition Uproar
During the Governor’s address, opposition MLAs created a disturbance. When the topic of competency tests for teachers was raised, opposition parties voiced their dissent. Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi attempted to pacify the MLAs from the Left parties, urging them to remain calm.
Government’s Achievements and Development Work
The Governor highlighted several accomplishments of the Nitish Kumar government. He noted that the state government has prioritised improving law and order, including increasing the participation of women in the Bihar Police. Additionally, the fencing of cemeteries across the state is being expedited. In the health sector, he mentioned that while Bihar had only six medical colleges before 2005, the number has now risen to 14. The central government has supported these efforts, and the state aims to establish a medical college in every district in the future.
Emphasis on Development and Good Governance
The Governor emphasised that since the new government took office on November 24, 2005, the rule of law has been firmly established in Bihar. He stated that the government is committed to development through good governance and justice, aiming to uplift every sector and section of society. Special attention is being paid to essential services such as education, health, electricity, roads, and drinking water. The Governor asserted that Bihar no longer lives in an atmosphere of fear but rather one of love, brotherhood, and peace.
