Patna: For the first time, Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan hoisted the tricolour in Patna during the 76th Republic Day celebrations on Sunday. The Governor inspected the parade in an open jeep and took the salute before addressing the gathering at the ceremony.
In his speech, Governor Khan highlighted the Bihar government’s commitment to creating employment opportunities. He announced plans to generate 12 lakh jobs and 33 lakh employment opportunities in the coming years. So far, over five lakh government jobs have been provided, including positions for teachers, police personnel, and officers. Recruitment for an additional 1.27 lakh posts is underway, covering sectors such as police, health, land, and revenue. The Governor assured the public that the state government is on track to achieve its ambitious employment targets.
Focus on Women Empowerment
Governor Khan also lauded the Bihar government’s initiatives for women empowerment. Since 2006, 50% reservation for women has been implemented in Panchayati Raj institutions and municipal bodies. Bihar currently has the highest number of women police personnel in the country, with 30,000 serving in the force. Additionally, since 2016, 35% reservation has been introduced for women in government jobs. More than 10 lakh self-help groups have been formed under the Jeevika programme, empowering women across the state.
The Governor praised the government’s efforts to ensure the development of all sections of society and its commitment to maintaining law and order.
Chief Minister’s Republic Day Address
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hoisted the tricolour at his residence on Ek Anne Marg before attending the Republic Day celebrations at Gandhi Maidan. He extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the people of Bihar on the occasion.
