Patna: The Bihar government has announced a significant increase in the honorarium for guest teachers at pharmacy colleges, marking a substantial benefit for the teachers in the state. Earlier, guest teachers received ₹1,000 per class, but this has now been raised to ₹1,500.
This enhancement will apply to guest teachers working in government pharmacy medical colleges and institutions across Bihar. The decision follows a proposal submitted by the Health Department to increase the honorarium for these educators. With the government’s approval, guest teachers will now earn ₹1,500 per class instead of the earlier ₹1,000.
The move aligns with the state’s broader goal of promoting technical education and creating employment opportunities for the youth, as outlined in the ‘Avasar Badhe, Aage Badhe’ initiative, part of the seven resolutions for a developed Bihar. Pharmacy colleges have already been established in five districts—Siwan, Sasaram, Banka, Nalanda, and Samastipur—with academic sessions underway. However, the regular appointment of teachers in these institutions has yet to be finalised.
While the Health Department is in the process of formulating rules for permanent appointments, delays are expected. To ensure uninterrupted teaching and regular classes for students, guest teachers have been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting lessons. Until now, these guest teachers were paid ₹1,000 per class, with a monthly cap of ₹35,000. Under the new scheme, they will receive ₹1,500 per class, with the monthly maximum increased to ₹50,000. The Health Department has already issued an official order to implement this change.
