Bihar girls finish 5th in 68th Senior National Ball Badminton

Patna: In the 68th Senior National Ball Badminton Championship held at Kottarakkara (Kerala), women’s ball badminton team of Bihar got the fifth position. Hosts Kerala defeated Bihar 35-31, 38-39, 35-21 in a nail-biting quarterfinal match of the championship.

Later, Bihar defeated Chhattisgarh 35-31,35-30 and Maharashtra 35-20,35-24 to bag the 5th place. Along with this, Bihar’s women and men teams qualified for the All India Federation Cup Ball Badminton Championship.

Priya Singh, Sonali Ghosh, Priyanka, Poonam Kumari and Yukta Rani performed brilliantly for Bihar in the championship. Giving this information, Joint Secretary of Ball Badminton Federation of India- cum-Secretary of Bihar State Ball Badminton Association Gouri Shankar said that international player Priya Singh, who performed brilliantly for Bihar, was awarded the “Best Upcoming Player Award”. Badal Kumar, who performed well for Bihar in the men’s category, was awarded with “Best Upcoming Players Award”. Bihar got 10th position in the men’s category of the championship.

Gouri Shankar said that the annual general body meeting of the Ball Badminton Federation of India was held at the venue. In the meeting, Bihar has been entrusted with the responsibility of organising the 68th Junior National Ball Badminton Championship (boys and girls) in the coming year 2023-24 and the third Youth National Ball Badminton Championship (men and women) in March 2023.
