Patna: To promote cricket in Bihar and create a competitive team at the national level, Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has announced the holding of the President’s Cup. This tournament will be held in Patna in April/May.
The tournament will consist of a two/three day format with eight teams split into two groups. The Teams will be chosen from different districts in Bihar for players from all areas to express their potential.
The tournament will be played in a league stage before players are picked from the best-performed for two new teams. The teams will then play two or three extra games of fierce competition, giving up and coming cricketers a taste of high-level action. This will help recognise some potential talents before the BCCI domestic season.
Team composition will be decided by a selection committee with a balance of senior, Under-23, Under-19, and Under-16 players. Each match will be played across two days (90 overs a side).
The matches will be played at Patna’s Moinul Haq Stadium and Vikrant Ground with SG Test balls being used to replicate the best quality of playing conditions. Moreover, all the fixtures will be telecasted live giving more coverage to the players as well as the tournament.
The President’s Cup forms an important link in the efforts of BCA to develop cricket in Bihar. It is a way for promising players to show what they can do in the red-ball format and to earn chances to push to the next level.
BCA Secretary Ziaul Afreen, Governing Council Chairman Sanjay Kumar Singh, CEO Manish Raj, Director Cricket Development and Operations Anand Yalvigi and other officials were present at the announcement.
