Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar inaugurated the newly constructed 500-bed hospital building at IGIMS on Saturday. The inauguration included two blocks, A and D, increasing the institute’s total capacity to approximately 1,700 beds, providing much-needed relief to patients.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Health Minister Mangal Pandey were also present at the event. The construction of the six-storey building, completed after a wait of nearly three years, cost approximately ₹280 crore.
The new hospital facility ensures that each department has its own dedicated ward, outpatient department (OPD), operation theatre (OT), critical care unit, and general emergency services. Doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff of each department will be stationed on the same floor, ensuring round-the-clock medical attention. Patients’ pathological samples will be collected directly from their beds, and radiological examination facilities will also be available.
The new building features a modular operation theatre, pre-operative and post-operative patient care units, a high-dependency unit, and a recovery ICU for specialised post-surgical care. The fifth floor has been designated for the operation theatre and ICU.
To enhance the hospital environment, trees and plants have been planted across the campus, promoting cleaner air. Additionally, waiting halls have been arranged on every floor for the convenience of patients’ relatives.
