Patna: Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha inaugurated Women’s Cricket Championship for Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cup which is being organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Tuesday.
The tournament is organised by the BJP Sports Cell. Sinha inaugurated the tournament by releasing balloons in the air. He was also introduced to the players of the participating teams. Bihar Cricket Association’s Neeraj Rathore, Sanjay Singh, Patna District Cricket Association’s convener Rajesh Kumar and state convener of BJP Sports Cell Satish Raju were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Kumar Sinha said that for the third consecutive year, the BJP Sports Cell has been organising this grand event. We are trying our best to provide employment opportunities to the players, he said.
State coordinator of BJP Sports Cell Satish Raju said that BJP Sports Cell has been organising women’s cricket championship every year on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee to provide an ideal platform for women cricketers to showcase their talent.
In the opening match, Bihar Blue defeated Bihar Red by 54 runs and Bihar East defeated Bihar North by 35 runs in the next match. Arya Seth of Bihar Blue and Saloni Kumari of Bihar East won the Women of the Match award.
Batting first after winning the toss, Bihar Blue scored 141 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs with the help of Arya Seth’s 65 not out and Priyanka’s 31 not out. Extras contributed 37 runs.
In reply, Bihar Red could only manage 87 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Yashita Singh scored 28 runs and Shobhana Saket scored 24 runs from the Bihar Red.
In the second match, batting first Bihar East scored 121 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Saloni Kumari made 45 runs, Preeti Priya made 28 and Anamika Raj made 10. Aakriti took two wickets for 13 runs for Bihar North. In reply Bihar North made 86 runs for 7 wickets at the end of 18 overs. Kashish scored 28 runs and Shikha Bharti made 29 runs. Divya Bharti took 24/2 and Anamika took 19/2 wickets for Bihar East. Saloni Kumari of Bihar East was named Woman of the Match.
