Bhagalpur District Among Thirty Best Performing Districts of Country in Implementation of Joint Action Plan Against Drugs and Substance Abuse

Bhagalpur: Adjudged as one of the best performing districts in regards to implementation of Joint Action Plan for Drugs and Substance Abuse – A War Against Intoxication, District Magistrate (DM) Dr Nawal Kishore Choudhury today received National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, government of India, award for best performing district in function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai presented memento to DM in recognition of successful implementation of joint action plan in district. The joint action plan it may be mentioned was prepared to streamline and uniformly strategies efforts being made by various authorities, institutions and agencies to ensure paradigm shift in drugs and substance abuse prevention among children in country.

For drugs and substance prevention among children particularly among school children, as part of Drugs Free India, a vision of Prime Minister, it was in 2021 the joint action plan for preventing use of intoxicants by children and restricting drug trafficking was prepared by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Narcotics Control Bureau.

In function held today at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi to mark international day for prevention of drug abuse and illegal trafficking, review regarding implementation of joint action plan for drugs and substance abuse was undertaken at national level. On the occasion District Magistrates/Collectors of total thirty best performing districts including this district were awarded for successfully implementing the joint action plan.

“Prahari Portal” was launched on the occasion by union minister of state for home affairs. With an objective of creating awareness and sensitizing school students against use of intoxicating medicines and substances, the portal was launched.

It has been decided activities aimed at creating awareness and sensitizing school students against use of intoxicants would be organized every three months through the portal by children and teachers nominated by schools for Prahari Clubs, to be constituted for the purpose.
