Bhagalpur: The list of achievements of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour has become longer with grant of patient right by government of India for university research invention related to nano rock phosphate formulation.

The nano rock phosphate formulation, a research invention of team of university soil scientists is likely to contribute significantly in addressing problem of extensive phosphorous deficiency in soil.

Dealing with problem of phosphorous deficiency in soil, experienced in most of the places in country in fact is a major challenge concerning the agriculture sector at present, as per university scientists.

The acidulated nano rock phosphate fertilizer of BAU would be also useful in addressing phosphorous deficiency in crops and thereby help increasing crop productivity.

The nano rock phosphate fertilizer prepared through new formulation according to university scientists is a significant research achievement in field of nanotechnology.

With all required potential, nano rock phosphate fertilizer could be an effective alternative of traditionally used phosphorous fertilizer. Use of new nano rock phosphate fertilizer as an alternative of traditionally used phosphorus fertilizers it is felt would also help reduce shortage of conventional phosphorous fertilizer in market.

The effects of nano rock phosphate fertilizer on paddy and wheat crops were studied by team of scientists involved in research undertaken for preparing the new formulation.

The results of the research study have suggested nano rock phosphate fertilizer developed by university has potential of reducing phosphorous deficiency in almost all crops.

The university was provided patient right of new nano rock phosphate formulation on June 28 this year for period of next twenty years from September 22, 2020, the date university had filed papers for securing patient right for its invention.

The team of scientists involved in research invention was led by Dr Kasturikasen Beura, assistant professor in department of soil science. The members of the team included Dr Amit Kumar Pradhan, Dr Nintu Mandal and Mr Rajeev Padbhushan.

Vice Chancellor (VC), BAU, Dr D R Singh, expressing happiness over research-based invention congratulated the team of scientists. He said the nano rock phosphate formulation developed by scientists apart from being a major achievement of university is also a major research development in field of nano technology.
