Bhagalpur, May 2: The Randhir Verma Super League 2023-24, organized by the Bihar Cricket Association, kicked off on Thursday with Pool A matches taking place in Bhagalpur. The opening match witnessed Begusarai facing off against Jamui.
On the first day of this two-day encounter, Begusarai managed to post a total of 166 runs in their first innings, losing all wickets in 47 overs. At stumps, Jamui trailed by 50 runs, reaching 116 runs for the loss of five wickets in 43 overs, with Mohammad Taufik unbeaten on 47 runs. Jamui’s Badal Kumar was the standout performer, claiming 7 wickets for 40 runs.
At the local Sandys Compound, Begusarai won the toss and opted to bat first. Apart from the top three batsmen, the rest of the Begusarai lineup struggled against the spin of Jamui’s Badal Kumar, resulting in the team being dismissed for 166 runs. Shivam Raj and Yuvraj displayed resilience with scores of 48 and 67 respectively. Badal Kumar wreaked havoc with his 7-wicket haul.
Jamui’s innings began with Anukul Kumar and Sachin Kumar Bhardwaj. The opening pair managed a partnership of 32 runs before Sachin fell at 32 runs. Anukul followed soon after with just 15 runs added to the total, both falling to Ram Kumar’s bowling.
Mohammad Taufik anchored Jamui’s innings while receiving support from Krishna. However, wickets fell at regular intervals, with Jamui losing their fifth wicket at 116 runs. At stumps, they stood at 116 for 5 in 43 overs, still trailing by 50 runs from Begusarai’s first innings total. Sachin contributed 15 runs for Jamui.
For Begusarai, Ram Kumar and Shivam Raj claimed two wickets each, while Abhiraj Dutt took one.
