Assam lad Antariksh bags All India Ranking Series U-18 Tennis title; Bihar’s Prashansa wins girls’ crown

Patna: Antariksh Tamuly (Assam) beat Kartikey Agassi (Bihar) 6-3,4-6,6-3 in a thrilling three-setter to win the All India Ranking Championship Series U-18 Tennis Tournament title at Caper Tennis Academy courts here on Friday.

Prashansa Shrivastava (Bihar) bagged the girls U-18 title beating Suhani Yadav (Madhya Pradesh) 6-2,6-3.

The final day of the tournament ended with the best match of the tournament so far between Antariksh Tamuly (Assam) and Kartikey Agassi (Bihar). The match took more than 4 hours to finish. Antariksh started the match aggressively and used his big service and his backhand slice to his advantage and quickly bagged the first set 6-3.

In the 2nd set Kartikay started to take advantage of the humid conditions and showed his grit chasing down the big shots from Antariksh. And towards the end of the second set, Antarikish suffered cramps. Antariksh helplessly saw Kartikay pocketing the second set 6-4.

In the third set Antariksh rehydrated himself with a lot of fluids which started to show effects and he was hitting his big shots again. He bagged the third set 6-3.

In the girls’ singles final, Prashansa Shrivastava (Bihar) was at her clinical best against Suhani Yadav (Madhya Pradesh). She quickly pocketed the first set 6-2 as Suhani was looking ill. It was later found out that she was suffering from viral fever. However Suhani gave some fight in the 2nd set but it was too late by then. Prashansaa won the second set 6-3.

Mallika Ambastha (tournament director) welcomed the guests. Akhouri Bishwapriya (joint secretary, Bihar Lawn Tennis Association) and Kunal Aikat (treasurer, Bihar Lawn Tennis Association) gave away the trophies to the winners and runners up. Abhishek Ranjan (tournament referee) proposed a vote of thanks.

Results: Boys’ singles final: Antariksh Tamuly (Assam) beat Kartikey Agassi (Bihar) 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Boys’ doubles final: Antrariksh Tamuly  (Assam) & Aritro Ghosh (West Bengal) beat Arihant Punj (Bihar) & Trivikram Rao (Bihar)  4-6, 6-1,10-7

Girls singles final: Prashansa Shrivastava (Bihar) beat Suhani Yadav (Madhya Pradesh) 6-2,6-3.

Girls doubles final: Prashansa Shrivastava (Bihar) & Paree Singh ( Bihar) beat Suhani Yadav (Madhya Pradesh) & Hanshika Singh (Bihar) 6-4,7-6 (10).
