All India Undergraduate Academic Convention in Biotechnology Begins at College of Agricultural Biotechnology

Bhagalpur: Aiming at acquainting students about opportunities and benefits in field of biotechnology, a two day All India Undergraduate Academic Convention started today in newly established College of Agricultural Biotechnology under Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour.

During the convention experts from different fields of biotechnology are scheduled to brief students about how best they could contribute in national development using their knowledge of the subject.

Dr B Neeraja Prabhakar, VC, SKLTSHU, Siddipet, chief guest at inaugural session in her address on the occasion said academic convention of such kind holds significance as it provides opportunity of making students aware about latest concerning the subject apart from conceptual aspects of subject matter.

Dr A K Shasany, Director, CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow and Dr Arvind Kumar, Deputy Director General (R) of ICRISAT, Hyderabad, guests of honour, at inaugural session in their respective address focused on growing field of biotechnology. They were of the view that opportunities in field of biotechnology properly exploited by students can help them significantly in their carrier growth.

Dr D R Singh, VC, BAU, delivering presidential address on the occasion apart from underlining significance of biotechnology particularly agricultural biotechnology also encouraged participating students to go for higher studies in the subject.

He felt opportunity of interacting with experts of the subject in course of the convention would help infuse clarity among students so far, their knowledge about the subject is concerned.

Earlier Dr N Chattopadhyay, convenor of convention delivered welcome address. Dr Dharmasheela Thakur, organizing secretary in her address on the occasion spoke about objectives and design of the convention. The speakers at inaugural session included Dr Anil Kumar Singh, Director (Research), BAU.

A short film “Safarnama” depicting journey of BAU since establishment of university was screened at inaugural session. A website of College of Agricultural Biotechnology was launched on the occasion.

A E-newsletter of College of Agricultural Biotechnology was also released on the occasion. The inaugural session was followed by two technical sessions respectively on plant and animal biotechnology.
