Bhagalpur: A new road connecting Banka and Bhagalpur districts is likely to be constructed in near future. Pre-construction process of land survey has been initiated for the purpose. The proposed 44 kilometer new road would provide third road link between adjoining districts.
At present a state highway and a national highway connects Bhagalpur and Banka district. The 134 kilometer long national highway bearing no NH-133 E passing through Jagdishpur in Bhagalpur district connects Banka district and further beyond greater part of Jharkhand including Santhal Pargana division of neighbouring state.
The road is one of the busiest national highways passing through eastern part of Bihar. The other road a state highway passes through Amarpur in Banka district. Traffic load is also huge on the state highway. The new road proposed to be constructed between both the districts is likely to ease traffic load on the existing roads.
As per available information the new road would be constructed between zero point at Devkal Pahadi in Banka district and Kahalgaon up to bank of Chandan river via Ghogha in Bhagalpur district. Of total length 22 kilometer stretch of the road would pass through each district.
A sizeable portion of the road would be constructed over embankment of river Chandan, as per plan. It may be mentioned major stretch of the rain fed river passes through Banka and Bhagalpur district. Construction of sizeable portion of new road over embankment of river Chandan it is said has been planned with objective of strengthening embankment of river.
According to information land of more than 1300 land owners falling in Banka and Bhagalpur district was acquired in past for construction of new embankment alongside river Chandan as well as for strengthening existing embankment.
River Chandan it may be mentioned is important from irrigation point of view. The water of rain fed river is primarily used for irrigating paddy crop in both Banka and Bhaglpur district. Renovation of existing embankment and construction of new embankment alongside river while construction of new road would enhance irrigational potential of the river and also help solve flood related problems in Banka district.
A proposal for construction of the new road is likely to be submitted to state government soon jointly by irrigation divisions of Banka and Bhagalpur districts. Subject to approval of state government it is said construction work of new road would start in near future. Survey work for construction of new road on embankment of Chandan started in Banka district on Tuesday this week.
