Varanasi: Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee University beat Ranchi University 3-1 via penalty shootouts in the East Zone Inter University Hockey (men) Tournament at Amphitheatre AstroTurf Hockey Ground in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Monday.
In the second match, Vinoba Bhave University beat Pt Ravi Shankar University 3-1. Divyanshu scored three goals for the winning team.
In the third match, Hemchandra Yadav University thrashed Manipur University 6-2. Piyush and Arbaaz scored 3 goals each for the winning team. Earlier, chief guest international hockey player Gopal Sharma inaugurated the tournament. The programme was coordinated by Dr Dhirendra Tiwari and detailed description of the programme was given by Dr Pradeep Xalxo.
Prof Abhimanyu Singh, General Secretary, BHU Sports Board, Dr Vidya Sagar Singh, former General Secretary, Prof Akhil Malhotra and Organising Secretary Dr Pradeep Xalxo, hockey lovers, teachers and staff were present on the occasion.
