Patna: Bihar’s Abhishek Singh and Ronit Ranjan moved into the semi-finals of the 4th Junior National Boys Boxing Championship in their respective weight categories at Patliputra Sports Complex here on Tuesday. With this, Bihar have been assured of two medals.
Abhishek Singh of Bihar, playing in blue jersey in the 57 to 60 kg weight category beat Morangthem Poonashiba Singh of Manipur by 3 -2.
In the 52 to 54 kg weight category, Ronit Ranjan of Bihar, who was playing in blue jersey, was given a walkover by Kishan Dadoria of Madhya Pradesh. Thus Ronit Ranjan entered the semi-finals.
Boxing Association of Bihar secretary Rajeev Kumar Singh said that semi-final matches will be played on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Bihar Handball Association President Pankaj Kumar, Bihar State Kabaddi Association Secretary Kumar Vijay and many dignitaries encouraged the players.
