The 3409 Up Malda –Kiul Intercity Express train narrowly escaped a major accident today when some front coaches of the train got separated from rear coaches between Sultanganj and Gangania stations located in Sahebganj –Kiul loop section.
As per available information front coaches got separated from rear coaches due to uncoupling of two coaches. The train stopped immediately after separation of front coaches from rear coaches could be detected. No passenger travelling in the train sustained any injury in the incident.
The passengers travelling in the train in number of cases felt the incident could have led to major accident. It was grace of God nothing untoward happened, they said.
As per press note issued by railways regarding the incident the 16th and 17th coaches from train engine were uncoupled leading to separation of the coaches. The uncoupled coaches were subsequently recoupled by on duty loco pilot and guard of the train.
The train resumed its onward journey at around 11.34 hrs. It has been further stated in press note that coaches were thoroughly checked by TXR on arrival of the train at Jamalpur station. The press note has added that uncoupling happened due to Automatic Chain Pulling (ACP) just before the incident.
