Bihar CM Nitish Kumar distributes job letters to 10459 police personnel, says 44,000 more appointments soon

PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar distributed appointment letters to 10459 new police personnel during a programme organised by the home department at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

The newly selected policemen, who turned up at the event in uniform, included 8246 sub-inspectors and sergeants and 2213 constables. About 36.7% of them are women.

In his address on the occasion, the chief minister said 44,000 more police personnel would be appointed against sanctioned posts in Bihar Police soon. He asked the officers of the department to take necessary steps for recruitment on these posts.

“There is a rule of law in the state and you will have the responsibility of maintaining it,” he told the new police personnel.

Kumar said he had always been paying special attention to ensure that there should be no shortage of police personnel in the state. Earlier, when the number of policemen in the state was less, we appointed retired army personnel as Special Auxiliary Police (SAP), he said.  “Even today, the number of police personnel in the state is not enough,” he said, adding that the Bihar will soon have 160-170 police personnelm per one lakh people, instead of 115 at present.

After distribution of appointment letters, Kumar also asked the newly appointed police personnel to take a pledge that they would neither consume alcohol nor will allow others from doing so.

Deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who was also present on the occasion, said those who indulged in acts of violence and riots would be dealt with strictly.

State finance minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav also attended the function.
