Divyanshu Kumar Singh and Maryam Fatima Crowned Champions at Bihar State Junior Chess Championship

Patna: In the Bihar State Junior Chess Championship organized by the Gaya District Chess Association under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association, Divyanshu Kumar Singh of Kishanganj clinched the title in the boys’ category, while Maryam Fatima emerged victorious in the girls’ category.

On the final day of this four-day event, an exciting match unfolded. Amrit Raunak of Muzaffarpur, who led the standings in the final round, faced Divyanshu on the first board. Divyanshu, playing with the white pieces, secured a fearless win. Meanwhile, Aniket Ranjan of Begusarai defeated Aakarsh Anand of Patna on the second board, earning six points. Based on tie-break points, Divyanshu was declared the winner, with Aniket as the runner-up. Among the five players tied for second place with five and a half points, Amrit Raunak of Muzaffarpur secured third place, Prem Kumar of Chhapra took fourth, and Dev Raj of Patna finished fifth.

In the girls’ category, Maryam Fatima of Muzaffarpur won the title again, scoring a perfect five out of five points. Maryam is also the current state women’s chess champion. Pari Sinha of Gaya claimed the runner-up title, remaining unbeaten with three wins and two draws, totaling four points. Arpita Singh of Bhojpur and Ankita Raj of Patna took third and fourth places, respectively, with three and a half points each.

After the championship, prizes were awarded by Chief Guest Harekrishna Gupta, Commandant of the 29th Battalion, Special Guest Colonel D. N. Singh, Mrs. Sanju Devi, Councilor of Bodh Gaya, Vijay Yadavendu, Dr. Satendra Kumar, and Tanya Jaiswal. Other dignitaries present included Gaya District Chess Association president Jaiprakash Sinha, vice president SK Mihir, secretary Santosh Kumar, Chief Arbiter Nandkishore, and many others.
