One Held Guilty in Murder of Senior Lawyer of Bhagalpur Bar

Bhagalpur: In connection with murder of Kameshwar Pandey, a senior lawyer of local bar also vice-chairman of state bar council, one of the three accused Gopal Bharati, was held guilty today by Hambir Singh Baghel, Additional District and Sessions Judge-11.

Total three accused apart from Bharati had faced trial in this much talked about murder case here in which apart from Pandey a female domestic help in his house was brutally killed.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP), Om Prakash Tiwary, who represented prosecution side in the case told View19.in that two other accused in this case other than Bharati were acquitted by court giving them benefit of doubt in absence of sufficient evidence to prove their complicity in crime.

Confirming main accused Bharati has been found guilty in double murder case the APP said court has fixed February 23 as date for proclaiming sentence on the main accused. He added total fourteen prosecution witnesses were examined in course of trial of the case.

It may be mentioned on March 6, 2020, Pandey was found brutally murdered in bed room of his house located in posh Nawab Bagh Colony of city under Tilkamanjhi PS. The domestic help of victim identified as Renu was also found murdered inside the house.

People of the locality came to know about the double murder after driver of Pandey came to his house to take him to court. Finding doors of house open and victim lying on his bed, the driver subsequently informed relatives of Pandey residing in same locality. The luxury car of victim parked in house had also gone missing following his murder.

Pandey used to leave alone in his house as his wife had died in past. The domestic help who was also found murdered had been in service for long time. The murder of the senior lawyer it may be mentioned had led to serious resentment among members of local bar.
