Patna: In a function organized by Bihar State Sports Authority and Hockey Bihar at Patliputra Sports Complex, the Chief Guest, Jitendra Kumar Rai, Minister of Art, Culture, and Youth Department, Government of Bihar, unveiled the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 which reached here under its round-the-country tour. He also inaugurated the Pass the Ball – National Leg Event. The trophy reached Bihar from Delhi, and it will reach Chennai via Bhubaneswar.

Speaking on the occasion, Jitendra Kumar Rai said that it is a matter of great pride for Bihar that Bihar has been selected for this programme of Champions Trophy. This program will be held only in six states of the country, of which Bihar is also one. This will boost the morale of the players in Bihar.

Bihar government is committed and continuously striving for the all-round development of sports and sportspersons in Bihar, he said.

Giving information about the programme, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Bihar State Sports Authority Raveendran Sankaran said that Trophy Tour and Pass the Ball have been organized for the 7th Hero Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Chennai from August 3 to August 12. The trophy tour and pass the ball event began on July 12 and will culminate in Chennai on July 19.

In this sequence, the trophy has reached Patna via Chandigarh from Delhi, where it is being welcomed and unveiled today. From here, it will reach Chennai via Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Guwahati, and Trivandrum, where the championship will be held, he added.

Sankaran said that it is a matter of great pleasure and pride that Hockey India has also chosen Bihar for this program to be held in only six states of the country. This magnificent trophy made of gold, silver, copper, and aluminum has been designed by Sanjay Verma of Bihar, which is a matter of pride for Bihar.

In this ceremony, Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority Raveendran Shankaran, Director Pankaj Raj, representative of Hockey India Vishal Sengar, former Vice President of Hockey Bihar Pradeep Kumar, former President of Hockey India, and General Secretary of Hockey Bihar Md Mushtaq Ahmed, as well as representatives and players of various sports associations in Bihar, including Liaquat Ali of the Bihar Athletics Association, were present.
