Patna, July 29: The 88th Bihar State Athletic Championships had a grand opening at the Patliputra Sports Complex here on Friday. The championships was inaugurated by DG cum Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation Managing Director Vinay Kumar, Director General of Sports Development Authority of Bihar Raveendran Sankaran, Director cum Secretary of Sports Development Authority of Bihar (SDAB) Pankaj Raj and Bihar Olympic Association secretary Mushtaque Ahmed by releasing balloons in the air.
Before the inauguration, the participating district teams performed an attractive march past to the tune of BMP band. Muzaffarpur district was adjudged best march past team. Sunny Kumar administered the oath of sportsmanship to the players.
The chief guest, DG cum managing director of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation Vinay Kumar asked the athletes to give their best and win medals. Everyone including the sports department is are ready to help you. He said that under the leadership of Director General of SDAB Raveendran Sankaran, better work is being done in the field of sports and in the coming days, Bihar will emerge as sports powerhouse.
Raveendra Sankaran said that since I have been an athlete and I know your hard work will surely pay the dividend. He said that the intention of the government is very clear that sports should become a mass movement in Bihar. He said that after this event, there would be a one month training camp for selected athletes for East Zone Championships and then the National Games.
Salim Parvez, president of Bihar Athletics Association said that a great atmosphere of sports has been created in the present time. Better work is being done under the leadership of DG SDAB Raveendran Sankaran.
Bihar Athletics Association secretary Liaquat welcomed the guests. Many dignitaries including Bihar Weightlifting Association secretary Arun Kumar Kesari, Alpha Sports Academy director Sumit Prakash were present on the occasion.
