15-year-old boy plots kidnapping story for mobile phone

Bhagalpur: A fifteen-year-old boy Divanyshu Kumar plotted his kidnapping to seek money from his father for purchasing a mobile phone having camera. A resident of village Fatehpur under Sultanganj police station of district, the boy has been arrested after he could be located in Sabour area by a police team constituted for his recovery.

In course of locating Divanyshu the police team has registered success in identifying a gang of criminals involved in cyber fraud active in certain areas of Nathnagar block of this district.

It all started after a FIR intimating about kidnapping of Divayanshu was lodged at Sultanganj police station by his mother Renu Devi on November 9. It was intimated in FIR that Divaynshu who left home at around 11.00 AM on November 8 did not return home till late evening same day.

It was further stated in FIR by complainant that subsequently ransom demand of Rs 5 lakh was made from her family for safe release of Divyanshu through a phone call made from an unknown number. In light of FIR a police team was constituted for recovery of Divayanshu.

In the meantime out of fear of harm to his son, father of Divyanshu transferred money demanded for his release to a Canara Bank account in Sultanganj. The details of the account in which money was transferred for release of Divyanshu ascertained through scientific investigation by police team revealed the account was in name of one Pritam Kumar Singh.

Dr Gaurav Kumar, DSP (law and order), giving details about scripting of kidnapping story at a press conference last evening said following initial lead received in this case police team mounted pressure on all involved in fake kidnapping case and subsequently succeeded in locating Divayanshu.

Referring to what Divyanshu had stated before police DSP said denial of his father to provide him a mobile phone and also pocket money led him plan his kidnapping. Amit Kumar, a friend of Divyanshu, he informed had assured Divyanshu that he would plot his kidnapping story in lieu of Rs 20000.

The said friend introduced Divyanshu with Ankit and Adarsh at Sultanganj Dr Gaurav said adding they were subsequently joined by Amarjeet Modi, a resident of Modi tola, Sultanganj. He informed Amarjeet a person of shady background had been to jail earlier. Amarjeet subsequently took all of them to Sanhoula village where they chalked out a plan according to which they decided to give Rs 2 lakh out of total ransom money to Divyanshu and share the remaining amount among them, DSP informed.

He said they subsequently stayed in hotel here. However Divyanshu was subsequently released in Sabour area by all others involved in plotting the fake story after they came to know that FIR has been lodged in connection with kidnapping and also in light of mounted police pressure on them, Dr Gaurav added.

He confirmed a gang involved in cyber fraud has been identified in course of cracking the fake kidnapping case. Total eight accused arrested in connection with fake kidnapping case include Amarjeet Modi, Subodh Mandal, Chottu Kumar, Vibhas Kumar, Binod Mandal, Amit Kumar, Mohit Kumar apart from Divyanshu.
