12th convocation of IIT-BHU concludes with much fanfare

Varanasi: The 12th convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi was organized on Friday, 06.10.2023 at Swatantrata Bhawan, Banaras Hindu University. In the convocation ceremony, degrees were awarded to 1660 meritorious students of various courses of the Institute. In this, 954 B.Tech, 247 IDD, 223 M.Tech/M.Pharma and 44 MSc students were awarded degrees.

A total of 108 medals (106 gold and two silver) and prizes were awarded to 66 students in the convocation ceremony and doctoral degrees were awarded to more than 192 research scholars. Shri Divyansh Chandra Roy, B.Tech, Electronics Engineering, was awarded five Gold Medals and two awards including the President’s Gold Medal for overall excellent performance in academics at the B.Tech level in the Institute and demonstrated excellent performance in all areas and organizational and leadership abilities. Shri Raghav Soni, B.Tech, Electronics Engineering was awarded the Director’s Gold Medal for his contribution.

The chief guest of the function, Dr. Sameer V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defense (R&D) and Chairman, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), honored the students with medals and awards. The prize distribution was conducted by Dean of Academics, Professor Shyam Bihari Dwivedi. During this, Chairman of the Board of Governors Padmashree Dr. Kota Harinarayan, Director of the Institute Professor Pramod Kumar Jain and Registrar (In-charge) Shri Rajan Srivastava were present on the stage.

Before this, the function started with garlanding the statue of Malviya ji, lighting of lamp, chanting of Vedic mantras and Kulgeet. The commencement of the convocation was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Padmashree Dr. Kota Harinarayan. After this, the Director of the Institute, Professor Pramod Kumar Jain read the report of the achievements of the Institute.

After this, a total of 09 alumni were honored with the Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Student Award 2023-24 in the convocation program. These include Shri Ghanshyam Prasad (Electrical-88) in the professional field, Professor Alok Gupta (Mining-88) in the academic field, Shri Sudhir Singh (Civil-93) in the Industry/entrepreneurship field, Shri Manu K Vora (Chemical-68) ) for Public Life, Shri Vikas Aggarwal (Chemical-95) and Shri Soumya Sarkar (Mechanical-79) for distinguished service to the institute and Shri Prateek Maheshwari (Mechanical-11), Dr. Akshay Kumar Rathore (Electrical-03) and Mr. Abhilash Sreedharan (Metallurgy-08) was awarded the Young Alumnus Achiever Award. Mr. Ghanshyam Prasad, Dr. Akshay Kumar Rathore and Mr. Prateek Maheshwari were present in the ceremony, who were honored with the prestigious Alumni Award 2023-24 by the Director and given a check of Rs 51 thousand.

The awards were announced by Dean (Resources and Alumni) Professor Rajeev Srivastava.
Dean of Research and Development, Professor Vikash Kumar Dubey, Dean of Student Affairs, Professor LP Singh, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. RK Singh, members of the Senate, heads of departments of all departments, coordinators, members of the Board of Directors, teachers, officers students and their parents were present at the ceremony.
